Price Armstrong is currently representing clients across the nation who have developed serious health issues as a result of JUUL® e-cigarette use. Many Americans, including minors with no previous smoking experience, are finding themselves addicted to JUUL® e-cigarettes after false advertising that the product is “safe” and “the healthier smoking option.” JUUL® did not disclose the danger of this product to the public, resulting in serious health complications for users.

If you have used a JUUL® e-cigarette and developed an injury, contact us to see if you qualify for compensation. We will work to hold JUUL® accountable for putting you at risk of addiction and other life-threatening health issues.

JUUL® is a nicotine delivery device, also known as an e-cigarette or vape, designed to mimic the cigarette smoking experience. The JUUL® ecosystem is comprised of two products: the reusable JUUL® e-cigarette device and the disposable JUULpods™. The pods contain the nicotine liquid and plug into the top of the JUUL® device, which vaporizes the liquid and nicotine when users inhale.

Sales of JUUL® products account for nearly 70% of the e-cigarette market. The product’s popularity is increasing due to select features:

  • It produces no smoke, ash or odor
  • It does not require a lit flame
  • It is reusable and rechargeable
  • It has eight available flavors

JUUL® usage has been prevalent among a younger demographic. In a study surveying 13,000 people between the age 15-34, 55.8% of users between 15 and 17 reported that they had used a JUUL® for 3 days over the past month, and over a quarter used JUUL® more often than that.

JUUL E-Cigarette

Although commonly marketed as a safe alternative to smoking, e-cigarettes have been scrutinized as evidence of the negative effects of vaping has become more apparent. JUUL® claims that the benefits of smoking non-combustible forms of nicotine reduces the risk associated with smoking, and that JUUL® is “cleaner.”

Concerns regarding the amount of nicotine contained in JUULpods™ have also risen, as the ease of use correlates with higher nicotine intake, ultimately causing more severe dependencies when compared to cigarettes. Although nicotine absorption levels are lower per inhalation, levels of nicotine within the bloodstream are expected to be higher because experienced users tend to inhale deeper and longer. JUULpods™ currently contain 3-5% nicotine by weight, with each pod equating to a pack of 20 cigarettes.

Current ongoing research and case studies indicate that e-cigarette devices pose a significant health risk. Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, two primary ingredients found in e-cigarettes, are toxic to cells. E-cigarettes also contain acetaldehyde, acrolein, and formaldehyde, which can cause lung and cardiovascular diseases. Acrolein, a herbicide primarily used to kill weeds, is also commonly found in e-cigarettes and can cause acute lung injury, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and lung cancer.

Even without the risks posed by vaping, continuous consumption of nicotine products can cause:

  • cardiovascular,
  • respiratory,
  • gastrointestinal disorders,
  • decreased immune response
  • and reduced reproductive health.

Due to the health risks involved with e-cigarettes and the messaging promoted by JUUL®, many users are taking legal action against the company. The allegations leveraged against JUUL® stipulate that they knew the health risks associated with the product and that users would receive high doses of nicotine while “JUULing.” However, by not disclosing this information, and by marketing to and designing for a younger audience, JUUL® is alleged to have mislead consumers in regard to the safety and health benefits of its products.

JUUL® has engaged in misleading and inconsistent public health messaging and targeting towards young adults. Hundreds of cases against JUUL® are currently being investigated – contact an experienced attorney today to ensure that you meet the requirements to qualify for compensation.
